A Little Corner of the World

Otago Daily Times, 30 August 2011.  Grahame Sydney holds one of his photographs, as Dunedin International Airport maintenance workers Steve Devlin (left) and Steve Keen hang more in the terminal.  The Central Otago artist is the latest to take part in the airport’s Artists in the Terminal programme with his exhibition of 18 photographs on display until after the Rugby World Cup 2011.
While the airport was not the most conventional place to show his work, he believed it would be a good way for visitors to “learn that our area can be blessed with extremes”.
Sydney’s “slightly new interest in photography” flowed naturally from his painting. He is also releasing a book of the work in November.
“The book is about my corner of the world. It’s the parts that I know and love, but I have limited it quite deliberately so it’s not a tourist book.”
