A Grahame Sydney painting has sold at auction for a record price, but less than what art experts predicted.
One of Grahame Sydney’s most famous paintings, Night House II, sold for $160,000 at an auction in Wellington last night.
It is the most anyone has paid for a Sydney painting, but less than the $180,000 to $240,000 predicted by auctioneers.
The painting was owned by art collector and Coast to Coast founder Robin Judkins, who was delighted by the sale.
“I am thrilled,” he said. “It is the highest price ever paid for a Grahame Sydney and I am absolutely stoked.”
